"Shipbuilders": A documentary of the German television channel ZDF on the construction of AIDAnova

AIDAnova is the first cruise ship worldwide to run 100 per cent on liquefied natural gas (LNG). The use of this lower-emission fuel significantly reduces pollution.

AIDAnova was financed by KfW IPEX-Bank and built at Meyer Werft shipyard in Papenburg, Germany. Meyer Werft has a worldwide reputation as a specialist for the construction of modern and sophisticated cruise ships. With around 3,500 employees Meyer is one of the largest employers in the region.

ZDF filmed the construction of the state-of-the-art cruise liner and gives a look behind the scenes of the long-established Meyer shipyard. The documentary focuses on the people who built AIDAnova and whose families have often been rooted in shipbuilding for generations.

Holger Apel, Global Head of Maritime Industries, is very pleased that KfW IPEX-Bank, the leading German provider of ship finance, is involved in the construction of the world's first LNG-powered cruise ship: "In ship finance we focus more than ever on sustainable concepts since the markets are embracing new ways of thinking."

KfW IPEX-Bank has taken on the structuring for the complex financing arrangement and provided the loan together with other banks.
