Local action, global impact

Published: 06.04.2020 By financing ‘green energy’ projects, we are making a significant contribution to global climate and environmental protection – because no matter where in the world renewable energy generation projects are expanded and measures to increase energy efficiency are implemented, this has a positive impact on the global climate.

Yet to continue our transition to the age of renewable energies successfully, we also need – at least for an interim period – technologies that can ensure security of supply, also at those times when the output from solar and wind power is lower than electricity demand. Electricity production from liquid gas (LNG-to-power) is an ideal bridge technology for this. Gas-fired power stations can offset fluctuations in the electricity supply from renewable energies. They are suitable for combined heat and power generation, are highly efficient and significantly reduce CO2 emissions compared with other fossil fuels.

Markus Scheer, member of the Management Board of KfW IPEX-Bank, talks about our transition to the age of renewable energies.
