Rail transport goes green: sustainable infrastructure

Published: 29.03.2021

Functioning infrastructure is the foundation of modern society. Low-emission infrastructure projects – like rail infrastructure – are becoming ever more relevant, especially in times of growing climate awareness.

This is because rail plays a central role in greening transport, with its share of freight transport set to increase to 25% by 2030. We want to shape this path together with our customers, by financing rail networks and the vehicles needed for them.

Andreas Ufer, member of the Management Board of KfW IPEX-Bank, talks about low-emission infrastructure and our involvement in rail transport.

You can find out more about two sample projects: for MFD Rail here and for our financing of low-emission engines for the public transport company Nahverkehrsgesellschaft Baden-Württemberg here.
