Energy-efficient conventional power stations
We finance the construction of conventional power stations and are one of the world's leading financiers of energy-efficient combined cycle power plants.
Financing case Hydrochem: Securing Singapore's Water Supply
An example of support of a project that contributes to energy efficiency is the financing of a new combined cycle power plant in Singapore. Construction of the 411 MW power plant is underway.
Components from Siemens
Key components for the plant manufactured and supplied by our long-standing customer, Siemens, are financed under the approx. USD 139 million loan from KfW IPEX-Bank: the highly efficient gas turbine, the steam turbine, the generator, the auxiliary units and the switching electronics. Under an EPC contract (Engineering, Procurement and Construction), Siemens is responsible for all work up to and including commissioning.
Securing the water supply
The power plant serves a special purpose: It supplies the Tuaspring seawater desalination plant, one of Asia's largest, with power. The desalination plant supplies 318,500 cubic metres of water daily (enough to fill around 125 swimming baths). Together with Singapore’s first desalination plant with a capacity of 136,380m3/day (also built by Hyflux), they can meet some 25% of Singapore's current water demands. The remaining power is fed into the electricity grid.
The Hyflux Group is the plant operator. It specialises in engineering, procurement and construction of water treatment and desalination plants globally. Hydrochem, a subsidiary of the Hyflux Group, is responsible for the construction work.
