• KfW IPEX-Bank contributes USD 100 million to finance a new fleet of ten vessels
• Significant contribution to the fleet renewal programme of the market-leading European tonnage provider MPCC

KfW IPEX-Bank, as the mandated lead arranger with a share of USD 100 million, is leading the financing of ten new container vessels for a German subsidiary of MPC Container Ships ASA (MPCC). The financing volume totals around USD 375 million, with a total investment cost of around USD 535 million. Société Générale is the active bookrunner and agent of the syndicate financing, while other international banks are likewise part of this landmark financing.

The financed fleet of newbuilds will include vessels with capacities of 3,700 and 4,500 TEU, expected to be delivered between January 2028 and May 2029. All ten vessels are chartered in the long term to the German company Hapag-Lloyd AG. The engines were designed by European manufacturers, while essential sub-components of the vessels were supplied by European manufacturers and assembled at the shipyards in China. The transaction thus contributes to strengthening the German and European supply chains in the global shipping industry.

MPCC is one of the largest tonnage providers in the intra-regional container vessel market, with a fleet of 67 vessels (approx. 210,000 TEU). It is currently engaged in an extensive fleet renewal and retrofit programme worth more than USD 1.8 billion.

KfW IPEX-Bank’s participation in this fleet financing is an important component of implementing MPCC’s modernisation programme. It will strengthen cooperation between German and European partners in commercial shipping and container logistics.
