KfW IPEX-Bank provides financing for Alpen Glasfaser

As part of a lending group, KfW IPEX-Bank contributes EUR 100 million for fibre optic expansion in Austria. Alpen Glasfaser has raised a EUR 417.5 million facility for the fibre roll-out to 650,000 homes and businesses in Austria.

Alpen Glasfaser, a joint venture between Magenta Telekom and Meridiam, is Austria’s largest private fibre partnership to date. By end of 2030, Magenta Telekom and Meridiam intend to jointly invest EUR 1 billion to connect more than 650,000 Austrian households and businesses to high-speed internet (FTTH). Alpen Glasfaser will take care of network construction and passive maintenance, while Magenta Telekom will market the products and services for end customers.

KfW IPEX-Bank has a growing portfolio in digital infrastructure: in 2022, financings amounted to EUR 1.9 billion. The financing for Alpen Glasfaser is the bank’s first financing in this field in Austria. So far, KfW IPEX-Bank provided financings for digital infrastructure in Germany, France, Netherlands, the Nordics, Poland, Italy, and England, among others.
