KfW IPEX-Bank finances innovative Wind-BESS portfolio by OX2 in Finland
KfW IPEX-Bank is taking a leading role as Facility and Security Agent in the banking club alongside Nordea, SEB and NatWest in the financing of a Wind and Battery Energy Storage System portfolio in western Finland. With a total investment volume of around EUR 500 million, this financing supports the construction and operation of three onshore wind farms and two co-located battery energy storage systems. Following the successful financial close of the wind portfolio end of 2025, financial close of the battery storage projects was now reached.
The portfolio comprises a total of 277 MW of wind power from 44 Vestas turbines and up to 235 MW of battery storage capacity, across the Kannisto, Korkeamaa, and Salo-Ylikoski projects, located in the Finnish municipalities of Halsua, Soini, and Kauhava. Upon completion, these facilities will make a significant contribution to sustainable electricity supply and strengthen security of supply in Finland as well as across the European power grid.
The combination of powerful wind farms and advanced storage technology enables the flexible and demand-driven delivery of green electricity. In this way, the project actively contributes to achieving European climate and energy targets and to strengthening regional value creation in Finland and Europe.
The project serves as an outstanding example of the flexible implementation of sophisticated portfolio solutions in the field of renewable energies. With its involvement, KfW IPEX-Bank underlines its role as a strong partner for innovative, structured financing and the ongoing development of the energy transition.
Dr Velibor Marjanovic, Member of the Management Board of KfW IPEX-Bank, emphasizes: "This portfolio financing sets new benchmarks for the integration of wind energy and battery storage, strengthening energy supply in Europe. This combination showcases how innovative solutions are driving the transformation of the energy sector. We are proud to have OX2 as a committed partner at our side."
With the financing of this OX2 project, KfW IPEX-Bank continues to expand its portfolio of wind and storage projects in the Nordics, reaffirming its role as a reliable partner for the transformation of European energy infrastructure.
