  • Flagship projects for energy transition in Australia
  • Hybrid projects using European components

KfW IPEX-Bank is contributing as Mandated Lead Arranger within an international banking consortium to support the construction and operation of solar and battery storage projects in the Australian state of Queensland.

The “Smoky Creek” and “Guthrie’s Gap” projects developed by Edify Energy will have a combined solar capacity of 720 MWp and battery storage capacity of 600 MW / 2,400 MWh. The solar and BESS plants are connected by state-of-the-art direct current connection (“DC coupling”), thereby minimising conversion losses.

Thanks to European exports of inverters from the Spanish manufacturer Power Electronics S.L., the European PV/BESS ecosystem is also being supported.

“We are delighted to strengthen our position in Australia’s growing renewable energy market with these projects,” says Dr Velibor Marjanovic, Member of the Management Board of KfW IPEX-Bank. “With this financing, we are expanding our partnership with Edify Energy and laying the foundations for future large-scale energy transition projects.”

Edify Energy is one of the leading independent power producers in the Australian market and is part of the global infrastructure investor La Caisse. Through its projects, the company contributes to the production and stability of clean energy in Australia as well as to the region’s long-term energy supply and economic growth potential.
