• The financing deal involving nine international banks is the largest credit transaction related to European charging infrastructure and, as green financing, is clearly geared towards sustainable infrastructure.

Financing volume

• With up to EUR 600 million (EUR 50 million of which is from KfW IPEX-Bank), one of the largest rapid charging networks in Europe is being expanded - as green financing for sustainable mobility.

Advantages

• The funds will be used to expand the pan-European rapid charging network, new charging parks, additional charging points and powerful technology to accelerate electromobility and the transport revolution.

An effective, cross-border charging network is a key prerequisite for the future of electro-mobility in Europe. This is precisely goal targeted by IONITY, which has built one of the first truly pan-European high-power charging networks. The company is already active in 24 European countries and thus facilitates reliable charging across national borders.

With currently more than 700 charging parks and over 5,000 charging points along central transport routes, IONITY connects important European corridors from north to south and west to east. This makes electromobility practical and plannable, especially on long journeys.

Plans for further expansion follow a clear European vision: By 2030, the network is set to be expanded to around 13,000 charging points and continuously consolidated through targeted investments - including in the form of large-scale green financing. The aim is to create a comprehensive, interoperable charging network that integrates both motorways and urban areas and thus simplifies mobility within Europe in a sustainable way.

As KfW IPEX-Bank, we are consciously supporting this approach. After all, a strong European charging network means more than just infrastructure: It lays the foundations for a connected, climate-friendly domestic market and makes sustainable mobility a matter of course for people and businesses across Europe.

As KfW IPEX-Bank, we believe that co-designing the transition towards a climate-friendly economy is one of our duties. A decisive area of leverage here is the expansion of modern charging infrastructure: After all, electromobility will only be able unleash its full potential for CO2 reduction when it is suitable for everyday use and available throughout Europe.

With our commitment to IONITY, we are supporting the targeted development of a high-performance rapid charging network along the most important European transport routes. As a result of this, we are making a concrete contribution to making low-emission mobility accessible to an increasing number people - across borders and with reliability.

Sustainable operations are particularly important to us in this regard. The IONITY network uses renewable energy and thus represents a consistently climate-friendly solution in the transport sector. At the same time, the high-power charging technology can deliver short charging times and thus increase the acceptance of electric vehicles in everyday life.

For us, this project is more than just financing. It is an example of how we as a bank can take responsibility and generate momentum: for innovative infrastructure, for sustainable investment and for a liveable future in Europe.
