KfW IPEX-Bank is providing finance for the construction of Community Windpower’s (CWP) new Aikengall IIa wind farm located near Dunbar, East Lothian, Scotland.

As addition to two of CWP’s current wind farms Aikengall and Aikengall II, this construction will be one of the largest subsidy free developments in Scotland using 19 Siemens Gamesa 4.3MW technology. KfW IPEX-Bank originally supported the construction of Aikengall II Community Windfarm in 2014, which has now been refinanced alongside funding of the new project.

The Aikengall portfolio debt facility is £144m and is a follow-up project implemented jointly by KfW IPEX-Bank and Community Wind Power. In 2010 and 2012, respectively, the Bank already refinanced CWP’s Calder Water and Millour Hill Wind Farms.

Aikengall IIa is scheduled to be operational in summer 2021. When the new project is finalized, the three wind farms altogether will have 54 turbines, from both Siemens Gamesa and Vestas, producing almost 200MW of clean, green energy, capable of providing power to at least 150,000 homes.
