KfW IPEX-Bank funds energy-efficient REWE logistics centre in Koblenz

Working together with another bank, KfW IPEX-Bank is providing financing to build a new and modern logistics centre for the REWE retail group in Koblenz. The loan of up to EUR 58 million will fall under the KfW Energy Efficiency Programme.

The total investment of the project is around EUR 80 million. The logistics centre will meet the highest environmental and climate mitigation standards and forms part of REWE’s operational environmental programme which aims to considerably reduce carbon emissions. Once operational in 2018, the logistics centre will achieve energy savings of more than 30% compared with conventional buildings which qualifies it for the KfW Energy Efficiency Programme. In the future, the new central warehouse will supply supermarkets in Rhineland-Palatinate and North Rhine-Westphalia.

“With this funding, we are once again supporting an important logistics project under the sustainability strategy of the REWE Group”, said Markus Scheer, member of the Management Board of KfW IPEX-Bank upon finalisation of the loan. In 2013 KfW IPEX-Bank was already involved in financing the highly efficient REWE logistics centre in Neu-Isenburg . The REWE Group is one of the leading retail and tourism groups in Germany and employs around 330,000 employees in 20 European countries.
