Examples for sustainable financing

KfW IPEX-Bank is providing a green loan facility for Norway’s Bane NOR Eiendom equivalent to approximately EUR 100 million. The funds are being used for investments in the extension and refurbishment of various maintenance workshops. By financing investments in supporting railway infrastructure, KfW IPEX-Bank contributes to the development of efficient public transport and thus to the decarbonisation of mobility and transport.

KfW IPEX-Bank is participating in the financing of a state-of-the-art integrated flat steel plant with a loan of EUR 187.5 million as part of an international banking consortium. By using a process based on self-produced green hydrogen and electricity from renewable energies, it is possible to produce steel with up to 95% less emissions than conventional production. With this funding, KfW IPEX-Bank is supporting a pioneering project of decarbonisation in the steel industry.

Together with other banks, KfW IPEX-Bank is providing Eliso GmbH, a subsidiary of VINCI Concessions, with a tailor-made project financing package totalling around EUR 130 million to build 828 charging stations as part of the Deutschlandnetz at more than 100 locations. This funding conforms to the Green Loan Principles in the clean transportation category and contributes to the shift to e-mobility.

KfW IPEX-Bank is participating in long-term project financing for the construction of a large onshore wind farm ("Pahkakoski") in North Ostrobothnia, Finland. Once completed, this wind farm will produce around 600 gigawatt hours (GWh) of clean and emission-free electricity per year, which corresponds to the electricity consumption of around 240,000 apartment buildings. With its wind farm portfolio, KfW IPEX Bank supports the transformation to a sustainable energy supply.
