Within KfW Group, KfW IPEX-Bank is responsible for project and export finance. It supports German and European companies operating in key industrial sectors in global markets by structuring medium and long-term financing for their exports, funding infrastructure investments, securing the supply of raw materials and by financing environmental and climate protection projects worldwide.
Although the pandemic situation continues, KfW IPEX-Bank can look back on the 2021 financial year with overall satisfaction: It was able to assist its customers with important investments, also in difficult times. KfW's statutory mission to support German and European export companies in global markets was thus again fulfilled in the past year.
KfW IPEX-Bank provided loans totalling EUR 13.6 billion (previous year: EUR 16.6 billion). Of this amount, EUR 13.0 billion (2020: EUR 15.9 billion) was attributable to original lending business and EUR 0.6 billion (2020: EUR 0.7 billion) to bank refinancing under the CIRR ship financing, ERP CIRR export financing and Africa CIRR export financing programmes. The volume of lending in the Export and Project Finance business sector added up to EUR 68.5 billion at year-end 2021 (previous year: EUR 67.5 billion).
